Viersen: Official Vandalism

These men are killing a row of beautiful old plane trees on the Festhalleplatz in central Viersen to make way for some ghastly new building work which the council has misguidedly given the green light to.

The policy of Viersen Council appears to be that any trees spared by the recent hurricane should now be removed by the bulldozers. What strategy this follows remains an utter mystery.

At any rate, the result will be an uglier city which will attract fewer people to live there or visit. The disgusting indifference of Viersen Council to its cultural and natural heritage will have a direct effect on the economic health of the city, as fewer young families will want to live there, fewer shoppers will want to shop there and fewer businesses wil want to be located there.

This deeply incompetent Council should hang its collective head in shame.
